MIDLOTHIAN, Va. – Long Island jumped to a quick 4-0 lead and defeated Maryland, 7-3, today to claim the High School boys’ Brine National Lacrosse Classic championship at the River City SportsPlex.

The win gave Long Island a berth in the annual Brogden Cup, which pits the Brine NLC champion against a Canadian All-Star team in the first weekend in January at the University of Tampa.
Long Island, which rallied for a dramatic 7-6 semifinal win over Carolina, got two goals each from 2017 attackman James Hall (Massapequa) and 2017 midfielder Thomas Szalkowski (St. Anthony’s). Connor Grauer, Ryan McMullen and Ryan Weiss each scored once.
Hall had been the hero in the semis when he scored the game-tying goal and game-winner just before the end of regulation. He had three in the game.

This article will be updated with comments from Hall, Szalkowski and LSM Vasilios Moutafis.
